Dunamis Defined
Dunamis is the Greek word meaning power, force or ability. It is the root word of our English words for dynamite, dynamo and dynamic. We also meet a power meaning as an important feature of someone’s nature. It means that this person has some inner strength that does not depend on outward things.
2 Corinthians 12: 9 Tells us, But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Although Dunamis sometimes refers to physical ability or strength, Dunamis is also used in the bible in many occasions to refer to supernatural miraculous power. God doesn’t give us super strength, but the power to overcome our short comings and the consequences there of. He and he alone saves us from death, Hell, and the grave.
